My LDL is 131, but I eat really healthy. I eat cashews, plain almonds, activa yogurt and a protein bar everyday, is this what is causing my cholesterol level to be borderline high?

Answer

Hi Emma,

Your LDL is just slightly elevated. The ideal is less than 130 mg/dL. The yogurt and nuts you're selecting are perfectly fine. Just want the amount of nuts you eat each day because they're high calorie. Good alternative nut sources would be walnuts,, pumpkin seeds, Brazil nuts, and sesame seeds since they are good sources ofomega 3 fatty acidswhich help lower cholesterol.

I can't vouch for the protein bar. There are so many different brands on the market with different compositions I couldn't say if your's having a negative affect on your cholesterol levels or not.

Maybe your diet is overall very well and what you need to do is boost your activity level, which will result in higher HDL (good) cholesterol levels and bring that LDL back down. . .
